Charlotte Reid is the eco-loving fashion designer and entrepreneur behind the extremely cool St. John’s based- recycled apparel and accessory design shop Charlottestreet. The St. John’s-born-and-raised designer always had art for fashion, and learned the cuts of the trade when she studied costuming at Dalhousie. Along the way she worked at theatres and on film sets across the country. Around the turn of the century she started making apparel and accessories, and was among the first to use recycled sweaters. Charlotte’s first collection was created from new fabrics she sourced from Montreal but she quickly saw the value in up-cycling because she could find quality materials locally.

Charlotte’s design includes: DRESSES, SKIRTS, SCARVES, SWEATERS, ACCESSORIES and much more! Knits, wools, and synthetics are used in Charlottestreet creations, each hand-picked from local charities, laundered, cut and sewn into something new. Charlottestreet works are approved by the Craft Council of NL’s standards committee and by NL crafts of Character for quality of the design.

Charlotte is a slow-fashionista, and the Charlottestreet business model is about making stylish, quality clothing that people will have for a long time. She says, “Our society over consumes, and it’s easy to see in the fashion industry. Charlotte Street is about creating sustainable choices.”

Charlottestreet is a supporter of community charities like Epilepsy NL, Kids Eat Smart Foundation, Planned Parenthood, Mollie’s Dream, Salvation Army, amongst others through sweater purchases and donations.
