Donating your gently used furniture to Home Again Furniture Bank could change a life.

Home Again is a nonprofit organization that provides gently-used furniture and household items to individuals and families in need. Maureen Lymburner, Director of Development, says “Home Again exists to eradicate a type of poverty that is often hidden.  Furniture poverty is hidden behind walls where empty rooms go unseen.  It is hidden behind the sofa whose costly monthly payments bring families into further debt. Furniture is essential to an individual’s health and well-being, to creating a sense of home, yet many people find themselves struggling to furnish their home.”

Home Again Furniture Bank started in October 2015 when community stakeholders worked together to respond to an identified need for a local furniture bank.  Since that time, Home Again has partnered with more than 35 local agencies and organizations, such as Thrive, Choices for Youth, the Association for New Canadians, Stella’s Circle and Iris Kirby House.  These partner agencies refer their clients to Home Again for their furniture and household items needs.

In their first two years, Home Again diverted 182 tonnes of furniture, collected from more than 465 donors and furnished more than 510 homes. Home Again relies on the wider community to secure donations of gently-used furniture (collected for only $25!).  #FurnitureFriday is the happy day when Home Again volunteer teams pack 1-2 vans and deliver furniture, at no cost, to families and individuals.

Home Again aims to become a household name, a go-to for donations of gently-used furniture from both individual households and businesses.  They hope to never see dumpsters filled with useable furniture.  Maureen says, “We are scratching the surface of the need and see many opportunities to close the gaps.  We hope to develop more partnerships with local businesses and continue to divert quality items from the landfill.”

Home Again always seeks donations of furniture and is open to new partnership opportunities and sponsors.  There are also volunteer opportunities for committed individuals. For more information, refer to their website or call (709) 325-4040.
