Happy. Peaceful. Different. That’s what Patsy Power, an Ontario-born nurse was looking for, so she created it in downtown St. John’s. Patsy is the queen of peace and pretty things, and proprietor of Rock Paper Flowers on the east side of the War Memorial. She says, “I have always been interested in gardening, growing up my mother was always gardening and I always thought it would be nice to work in a flowershop.” She opened the little independent Rock Paper Flowers in 2014 on the west end of Water Street, and moved inti 245 Duckworth with alongside Broken Books in January of 2018, and its a lovely collaboration that brings books and more to the mix.  (Including coffee. Broken Books is a coffee bar bookshop.)

Rock Paper Flowers sells special, lovely stuff to own or to give like tiny SUCCULENTS, HOUSEPLANTS, TERRARIUMS, FRESH FLOWERS, FRESH HAND-TIED BOUQUETS, POTTERY, PLANT POTS, GIFT CARDS, WRAPPING PAPER, all of these presented with such simple beauty that just visiting the store creates a wash of calm. Patsy gets her plants and flowers and products from different places, some plants come from Canadian greenhouses in Newfoundland and Labrador and Ontario, and others come from South America and Europe.

Rock Paper Flowers is one of those community-building small local businesses that gives people who want to buy local a thoroughly enjoyable place to be. Patsy’s facebook page is a sip of calm too – or in real life with a sip of coffee!
