Yoga Kula Co-op

About:  A community focused yoga cooperative based in St. John’s
Available At: Old East End, Coaker’s Meadow Plaza, 286 Torbay Road Unit 8 (Formerly Shakti Yoga Studio) St. John’s, NL A1A 4L6

Uniting to create a common space for the St. John’s community to grow and explore, the Kula came together in 2015 when a dozen yoga instructors needed beautiful, affordable rental space to offer classes and workshops. The timing was perfectly aligned with the growing public interest in yoga, meditation and community.

Throughout the week there are different classes offered by a variety of teachers for everyone – beginner yoga, neurogenic yoga, chair yoga, prenatal yoga, baby yoga, kitten yoga and more – as well as yoga-related and non-yoga related workshops. The Kula is a yoga-centric community centre that responds to community needs.  When yogis aren’t on their mats, you might find a sewing pop-up, or you might find a great kids camp.

“The space is a non-profit enterprise that exists on its own to bring people together,” says Co-op member Bobby Bessey.  It’s clean, open, creative space that gives teachers freedom to bring their own style and expertise for their students on a freelance schedule.  “Because of that, Kula is a hub of exploration, and personality.  The Kula makes it easy for the public to access a wide variety of yoga classes because it makes it easy for teachers to try out different and evolving types of yoga.”

Co-op membership is open to all. Email Kula for information on how you can become part of this vibrant health and wellness community.
