sometimes it’s hard to see amazing things that are available to us underneath the rigmarole of the everyday.  we spend so much time looking on screen for information and inspiration (like you are now, for instance!) that shift to ‘active, out, and engaged with family, friends the community and the natural environment’ seems like a leap. and it is!  it’s a great leap forward!   but that shift is the key to creating the space and capacity for connection.

our community is rich – especially when groups come together to make good things happen!   this summer the guide to the good profilees, ~ Live Sustainably NL and Junior Forest Wardens NL along with other fabulous supporters and collaborators have come together to put off #playoutdoors – a series of three adventures designed to create opportunities for families (kids and responsible adults – blood relation not required) to connect in the natural environment.  #playoutdoors is for all – those families who love the outdoors and have been walking the trails forever, people who are novice at nature, and those who are brand new to this place!

the first #playoutdoors event is Junior Forest Wardens Open Field Day – July 14th 2018, North Bank Lodge, Pippy Park 1:00 – 4:30.   like most things to do with Junior Forest Wardens, it’s happening no matter the weather!  fabulous activities planned, including canoeing with another amazing community group – Paddle NL!

check out the Open Field Day for details! and as an added special bonus, 19 Wardens from Alberta are taking part and sharing their mad outdoor skills… including the Chief Warden of Canada – Dave Cullen – who is on a cross-country JFW tour in his motor homeand ps – those Wardens from Alberta are on the ‘Searching for Sid’ tour and will be showing up in their red shirts and blue hats all over the place between July 11 – 20!  if you see them tell them they just missed Sid – at Middle Cove Beach, Newfoundland Chocolate Company, North Atlantic Zipline, The Rooms, The Haunted Hike, Terra Nova National Park, Inn at Happy Adventure, Thomas Howe Demonstration Forest, Bonavista Social Club, Cape Bonavista Lighthouse, Rugged Beauty Tours, the Skerwink Trail, trinity pageant and other places!

right now there are two Junior Forest Warden Clubs – the Giant Squid and the Wild Wanderers, and JFW is running a recruitment campaign to help get new Clubs started– you can find out more at Open Field Day.

the next two #playoutdoors events are:

#playoutdoors Event 2:
Family Nature Hike
Saturday August 4, 2018
(details to be announced)

#playoutdoors Event 3:
Foraging Expedition

(look at how interconnected all this is!  loves it.)
